Reader Of The Spotlight

It was my pleasure meeting Kelly White Prioleau last year. Her smile lit up the room. I remember sitting next to her… looking at the room full of unique, beautiful women from different ways of life, but we all sat together because of books. Books brought us all together…

Kelly White Prioleau is 46 years old, (she doesn’t look over thirty), a mother of two fabulous children; 25 yo daughter and 17 yo son. She’s the oldest of 4.  She’ll soon be back on the dating scene after a 20 year hiatus. This is going to be her year… Three things people may not know about her:  she used to be really shy; she’s a compulsive counter (she mentally count items; like how many pieces of laundry she puts in the washer, etc); and she suffers from insomnia.

  1. Outside of reading what do you like to do? Travel; die hard sports fan (Dallas Cowboys, Duke Blue Devils basketball & Chicago Bulls); be with my children.
  2. What is your all-time favorite book? This is extremely difficult but it would have to be a tie between my first IR book by Eve Vaughn (Every Breath You Take) and Lena Matthews, Happily Even After.
  3. What are you reading right now? Funny you should ask that; I’m rereading Love Through Pain.
  4. Favorite book you’ve read last year? I don’t have just one; many resonated with me last year. Love through Pain, Saints & Sinners, BOMAW series, Sergei, Thursdays in Savannah, the Alfonzo series by S.W Frank, the Ramsey/Tesano series by Altonya Washington, any book by Mallory Monroe and so many more!
  5. Favorite place to read? I can read anywhere but my favorite place to read would be my bedroom 🙂
  6. What makes you love a book? Great dialogue, steamy chemistry between the main characters, humor and a strong alpha male who will always stand up to and for his woman!
  7. What will inspire you to recommend a book? It has to move me; I have to feel the love, the angst, I have to laugh out loud at the dialogue; I have to “live” what they are going through just by the author’s words.
  8. Favorite genre? IR currently.
  9. Do you have a reading snack? Is coffee a snack? If so, good coffee and a great book and I am a happy camper 🙂
  10. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews? I do not give bad reviews; I will contact the author directly if I can but I will not leave a bad review on Amazon, etc. My mom always told me if you do not have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
  11. How many books do you usually read in a month? I used to be such a voracious reader but there are not enough hours in the day! I’m happy if I can read 5 books a month; my TBR pile is daunting right now 🙂
  12. The longest you’ve gone without reading? The longest I’ve gone without reading was when I was hospitalized last year; 5 days.
  13. What would cause you to stop reading a book halfway through? Terrible grammar, editing or a plot that does not make sense at all! There is only one book that I stopped reading after the first 5 pages and seriously considered asking for my money back. The grammar was horrendous and the dialogue was off-putting considering the hero was a “billionaire” business owner and the heroine was an attorney! It was ghetto without being fabulous!
  14. Name a book that made you angry? I won’t name the book but it’s the book I was talking about in question #14.
  15. If you could be a character in a book, who would it be and why? Xenia from the Saint series by Tiana Laveen because I want to be able to experience EVERYTHING she does with a man like Saint!!
  16. Who are your favorite authors? Ancelli, Tiana Laveen, Yvette Hines, Pepper Pace, Aliyah Burke, Sienna Mynx, Eve Vaughn, Naima Simone, Latrivia Nelson, Erosa Knowles, Serenity King, Mallory Monroe, S.W Frank, Altonya Washington, Brenda Jackson, Shelly Laurenston, Evangeline Anderson, J.R. Ward, and so many more I am sure I’m forgetting! These are my automatic 1-clicks 🙂
  17. Have you ever considered writing a book? Yes; I even had a title (Diary of a Mad Black Woman) but Tyler Perry beat me to it 🙂
  18. What makes you buy a book? The cover is what initially draws me in, then the synopsis. If it’s a favorite author, it’s an automatic purchase.
  19. What would you like to see more in books? I would like to see more everyday heroes; not from you but in general. I am so sick of billionaire this and billionaire that!
  20. What book can you relate to? A book I just read by Tiana Laveen…The Fight Within. Treasure was divorced and trying to play mom & dad to her two children; never bad mouthing the dad (even though she had every reason to) but making excuses as to why the dad is not as involved. Treasure had a cheating ex who didn’t want her, was happiest when she was miserable, but the moment she found joy again he wanted to come back. It felt like I was reading about my life.
